Tom Bryant Receives Prestigous Award from ACEC
ACEC- American Council of Engineering Companies- of Mississippi awarded Tom Bryant, Principal Emeritus responsible for MS Business Development, the 2016 Teddy Roosevelt Award. This award represents distinguished service to the engineering profession. Below is an interview with Tom:
Where did you go to school?
Undergrad: Mississippi State University- Civil Engineering; Grad: U of M- MBA
Where are you from?
Tupelo, MS
If not from Memphis, what brought you to Memphis?
I was working in New Orleans and accepted an engineering job in Memphis, TN
How many years at Pickering?
32 years in April.
Favorite thing about working at Pickering?
I’ve experienced great diversity in projects and responsibility. Working here has never been boring but a professional challenge with an opportunity to do a wide variety of things such as structural engineer to project manager to working with the MS operations/development.
How many years have you been a part of ACEC-MS?
16 years
Favorite thing about being a part of the ACEC-MS?
It’s been a tremendous experience to network with peers and a great professional benefit.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was a 2-year period coaching a competitive baseball team of 13 & 14-year-old boys in Germantown, TN. We played a lot of games with the support of a good team, good parents and good coaches.
Who has had the greatest influence on you and why?
My wife has been my greatest influence. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year and celebrating each month throughout the year. She’s my partner and best friend.
If you could give one piece of advice to young people, what would it be?
Professionally- recognize the profession you’re involved in and realize the impact it has on other people and be involved in your community and social endeavors.
Life- be honest and truthful with yourself and with others; practice discipline and live with integrity.
