Accountant

Pickering Firm, Inc., a full-service Engineering and Architecture firm with a 77 year history, is seeking a full-time, experienced Accountant.

The successful candidate will work in the Memphis, TN Headquarters, and will supervise, participate in, track and evaluate day-to-day activities including A/P, A/R, monthly close, etc.  This person will work closely with the Director of Finance to assure that the accounting systems in place are adequate for collecting, analyzing and reporting information to Sr. Management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting staff including:

    • month-end and year-end accounting process

    • accounts payable/receivable

    • cash receipts

    • general ledger

    • payroll

    • budgeting

    • revenue and expenditure variance analysis

    • capital assets reconciliations

    • fixed asset activity

    • debt activity

  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements for both month-end and year-end closing process.

  • Assist in the establishment and enforcement of proper accounting methods, policies and principles

  • Assist in the coordination and completion of annual financial audits

  • Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures  

  • Meet financial accounting objectives

  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable

  • Produce ad hoc accounting reports as requested

  • Provide technical support and assistance to other Departments related to accounting software

  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures

  • Assist in the management of accounting staff

  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process

  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule

  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns

  • Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance and timely completion

  • Plan, assign and review staff’s work as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven working experience in progressive Accounting roles

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), practices, standards, laws and regulations

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office and accounting software

  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)

  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance

  • CPA a plus
