Project Manager/Sr. Transportation Engineer

Pickering has an immediate career opportunity for an experienced Transportation Engineer in our Memphis, TN office. The qualified applicant must have a BSCE and 10-15 years of experience in roadway design projects with TDOT and other local government municipalities.

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct transportation engineering and design work.

  • Develop the initial design approach for roadway projects of various sizes and complexities.

  • Perform various aspects of roadway projects including geometric design, drainage design, utilities coordination and design, signing and marking, EPSC design, signal design, and traffic control design.

  • Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for projects.

  • Design and produce engineering drawings based on required standards and calculations.

  • Develop and review roadway design plans.

  • Prepare and review technical specifications, contract documents and estimates.

  • Check, interpret and revise engineering drawings.

  • Recognize and solve problems during project development.

  • Supervise and observe the design and on-going progress of a project.

  • Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and team staff.

  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to project.

  • Supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in an understandable way to clients

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques.

  • Ability to be proactive in determining the necessary steps to meet objectives and performance expectations of position.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, project, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks.

  • Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with a variety of different personalities and communication styles.

  • Ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering

  • Minimum of 10 years of roadway and drainage design experience, traffic and safety design experience is a plus

  • TDOT project experience, other DOTs a plus

  • Understanding of roadway design guidance from AASHTO

  • Experience with TDOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation

  • Project management experience, including client coordination and team assignments to meet project objectives

  • Proficient in MicroStation/Geopak, Open Roads Designer a plus

  • Professional Registration in TN, other states a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, other Office applications a plus

  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills
