Field Survey Technician

Pickering Firm, Inc. is seeking a Field Survey Technician to join our team. This position supports the firm’s Survey Department, located in Memphis, TN. In this position, the candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in the field working under the supervision of a survey crew chief/supervisor. This position requires knowledge of mathematics as it relates to land surveying. Experience with AutoCAD as it relates to land surveying is a plus but not required. This position will work closely with other field survey technicians to gather field survey data for the preparation of various types of surveys such as: hydrographic, corridor, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographical, as-builts, etc.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Participates in conducting land surveys
Measures field locations of objects, the dimensions and boundaries of land areas, and the position of points, lines, and grades
Operates conventional and electronic field surveying instruments
Sets up and operates total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and other instruments
Establish angles and distances for mapping, construction, stake out, and the establishment of control
Other duties may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED
2 years of field experience
Driver’s License with clean driving record
Desire and ability to build a career in land surveying
Hands-on working knowledge of GPS systems, total stations and data collectors
Good verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work with and communicate with others
Must be able to pass 11-panel drug screen
Must be willing and able to work out of town periodically
Must be dependable and on time each day for work
Must have experience with and knowledge about traversing, level runs, GPS system operation, total station operation, data collector operations, construction staking, etc
Must be able to follow and understand instructions
Must be fluent in the English language
Must be willing and able to work in various ranges of temperatures and different types of terrain
Please note that Pickering will train the proper candidate to be a field survey crew supervisor with a substantial pay increase over time.
