Field Survey Technician

Memphis, TN

Pickering Firm, Inc. is seeking a Field Survey Technician to join our team. This position supports the firm’s Survey Department, located in Memphis, TN. In this position, the candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in the field working under the supervision of a survey crew chief/supervisor. This position requires knowledge of mathematics as it relates to land surveying. Experience with AutoCAD as it relates to land surveying is a plus but not required. This position will work closely with other field survey technicians to gather field survey data for the preparation of various types of surveys such as: hydrographic, corridor, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographical, as-builts, etc.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Participates in conducting land surveys

  • Measures field locations of objects, the dimensions and boundaries of land areas, and the position of points, lines, and grades

  • Operates conventional and electronic field surveying instruments

  • Sets up and operates total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and other instruments

  • Establish angles and distances for mapping, construction, stake out, and the establishment of control

  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 2 years of field experience

  • Driver’s License with clean driving record

  • Desire and ability to build a career in land surveying

  • Hands-on working knowledge of GPS systems, total stations and data collectors

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work with and communicate with others

  • Must be able to pass 11-panel drug screen

  • Must be willing and able to work out of town periodically

  • Must be dependable and on time each day for work

  • Must have experience with and knowledge about traversing, level runs, GPS system operation, total station operation, data collector operations, construction staking, etc

  • Must be able to follow and understand instructions

  • Must be fluent in the English language

  • Must be willing and able to work in various ranges of temperatures and different types of terrain

Please note that Pickering will train the proper candidate to be a field survey crew supervisor with a substantial pay increase over time.
